After having finished the primary school of music and having made music in the brass orchestra “Javornik”, he continued his studies at the college of arts and music in Prof. Zoran Ažman’s class in Ljubljana. In 1966 he started to give lessons at the primary school of music, but shortly after however, he answered the call of the popular music. So he played successfully for 30 years with the Alpski Kvintet. He also took active part in producing some records for the ensemble Jožeta Burnika and the ensemble Triglav Quintet Katerman together with his wife and singer Ivanka Kraševec. He is one of the best Slovenian musicians who gained international fame with the Alpski Kvintet. Together with members of the group and not at least his brother and composer Brane Prešern he created the significant sound of the Alpski Kvintet (one of the best groups of this kind of music). He also found assistance in his attractive and successful wife and vocalist Ivanka Kraševec. As a composer Ivan has made many hits. Up to now he has composed and arranged more than 300 musical titles. Some of them are on several golden and even diamond records of the Alpski Kvintet, issued in Slovenia and Austria. At the musical event “Slovenski Slavček” he was distinguished with the title “King of Slovenian polkas and waltzes”. Ivan has also supported the well known trumpet manufacturer Martin Lechner to develop the jazz trumpet serial. It contains a module system, that offers 20 different possibilities nowadays. |
